Harrowells boosts commercial division with two new partners

Harrowells has strengthened senior level advice within its commercial division with the recruitment of two new partners.

Corporate law specialist, Mortonson, who has previously worked in two major commercial law firms in Yorkshire, advises on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and investments, shareholder issues, corporate governance and all forms of commercial contracts. She joins after two years as an in-house lawyer with a national property services business.

Commercial property and agricultural lawyer, Stephen Proctor, who joins from a major West Yorkshire law firm where he led the commercial team, advises on all aspects of commercial property including sale, purchasing, leasing and development deals

Stephen Proctor’s experience in advising on agricultural matters, including land purchases and sales, farm business tenancies and business diversification deals, adds to senior level advice already provided by partners James Scott and Colin Moore in one of the North’s most important industries.

The two appointments take Harrowells commercial division, which operates from Clifton Moor, Thirsk, Easingwold and Pocklington and encompasses commercial litigation, company commercial, commercial property, agricultural and employment law, to ten partners and 14 further staff.

The head of Harrowells’ commercial division, Simon Black, a partner who also leads the litigation and dispute resolution team, says: “These two senior appointments demonstrate our confidence in the commercial sector across North and East Yorkshire.

“We are seeing growing confidence in Britain’s economic recovery, demonstrated by greater demand for services across the spectrum and the appointment of Susie Mortonson and Stephen Proctor add to our ability to deliver top-class advice in key areas where we face increasing demand.”
