James Roberts

James Roberts is a Solicitor in our Medical Negligence Department. He joined Harrowells in 2026 and has a broad legal background, including experience in complex litigation and regulatory matters. He understands that bringing a medical negligence claim can feel complex, sensitive, and daunting, and provides clear, practical guidance throughout the process.

James takes a thorough and considered approach to each case, helping clients understand the issues being investigated, the evidence required and the options available to them. He is committed to achieving the best possible outcome for each client, while ensuring they feel informed and supported throughout their claim.

Qualifications

James graduated from University College London with an LLB (Hons) Law degree in 2010, during which he studied Medical Ethics & Law. He subsequently completed the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at Cardiff University, graduating in 2014. James qualified as a Solicitor in 2019.

Experience and specialisms

James has experience in a wide range of medical negligence claims, including complex and high-value cases involving delayed or missed diagnoses, failures to investigate or refer, surgical errors, sepsis, cancer, serious infections and failures to monitor or escalate a patient’s condition. He also has experience of claims involving life-changing injuries, amputations, traumatic brain injuries and fatalities.

James has led and supported claims through investigation, expert evidence, High Court proceedings, mediation and settlement meetings, contributing to outcomes exceeding £2 million for clients.

Before specialising in medical negligence, James gained experience in a range of other areas of law at leading law firms, including high-value private equity fundraising transactions, financial services remediation, regulatory investigations for major banks and construction disputes.

James splits his time between our York office and his home in Cardiff, enabling him to support clients both locally and further afield.
