Our Resolve. Your Resolution.

How we use AI to support our service to you

What do we mean by the term AI?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) already encompasses a very wide range of processes and potential services - and the ways in which AI can be used continues to expand very rapidly.

In this context, we mean the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) to assist with meeting summaries, drafting and research and the use of LLM-based services to undertake some elements of our processes.

Will you rely on AI to provide your advice to me?

No, ultimate responsibility rests with our lawyers to consider the use of AI carefully and to check all outputs we might use.

Great service means understanding you, explaining process, options and giving advice clearly and accurately, anticipating issues and being proactive. The responsibility to deliver that service always rests with our lawyers, who we train and mentor to deliver that service.

How do you use AI as part of your service?

There are aspects of our work where different AI processes may help speed up our service but we only use those where your data can be safely processed and where we can check outputs for accuracy and for relevance to your situation.

Examples of ways in which we will sometimes use AI include:

  • Generating a draft summary of a meeting transcript, allowing lawyers to move to the next stage of work more rapidly
  • Undertaking some initial background research that might be useful as part of wider professional advice
  • Adapting and enhancing existing systems within our organisation to improve the overall convenience to you as our client.

How have you assessed where it is safe and appropriate to use AI?

Every AI-based process we use is subject to initial and ongoing review that encompasses whether and how it might handle client and other data we hold, where that processing taking place, the security of the processing and how long we hold data. In practice, this means we prefer to use very specific AI-based processes tailored for use in a regulated business environment and which are designed to protect your data from being shared inappropriately.

A more detailed explanation of our approach to handling data and assessing the risks and requirements of data processing are set out in our Privacy Policy.

What ongoing checks and monitoring do we undertake when using AI?

A large part of our ongoing checks focus on ensuring our lawyers and those supporting them understand how best to use AI-based processes and the potential risks that need to be managed.
