Your progression and development

Our core values, reflecting the feedback we receive from our clients and our people, are about being professional, supportive, approachable and friendly.

You will find these values are embedded in our recruitment and our training and development programmes. They also link directly to our business planning within departments and across the firm.

“Harrowells are really good with helping people progress, and I think if that’s what you want, then it’s a good firm for you”

Rebecca Jennings, Associate Solicitor, Commercial Property, Clifton Moor

Developing your skills and experience

We have steadily built up our legal expertise across a range of practice areas. Whatever your role or career stage, our focus is on integrating you successfully within our teams.

Our aim is to help you develop and further hone your specialist skills, whether you are a qualified legal adviser, working in one of our support functions, or a trainee.

With our focus on delivering fantastic client service, we look to develop your wider skill set beyond the core ‘technicals’.

“I think it’s a great place to work. It’s really supportive but also really ambitious. I feel like I’ve been pushed to develop my career and my knowledge; it’s just been a really good balance of having a nice supportive team but also feeling like you can achieve and progress your career”

Rebecca Laffan, New qualified Solicitor, Family Law, York St Saviourgate

Different routes to success

People who thrive in our business come from different backgrounds and different career starting points.

Our managing director, several of our Heads of Department and many of our partner and senior associates joined our firm as trainees or newly qualified solicitors or progressed whilst working with us via the CILEX, CLC or paralegal pathways.

“My career has gone from strength to strength at Harrowells – from being an assistant solicitor to being a director”

Richard Wood, Director and Head of Personal Injury, Clifton Moor

“If you’re looking for progression, if you’re looking to work hard and be hands on, I think it’s a really good place to push on with your career in law”

Jordan Calpin, Paralegal, Private Client, York St Saviourgate

We also have a very successful track record of integrating those joining us mid-career, whether from another law firm, from another sector or following an extended career break. What we value above all is attitude and approach consistent with our core values.
