Harrowells cited in research report on dementia

  • Posted

Harrowells has been cited in the Joseph Rowntree Foundation report: 'Dementia-Friendly Yorkshire: First steps on the Journey'.

The report details efforts made by a mix of 20 businesses and public bodies in Yorkshire to ensure they provide practical support to people with dementia. Harrowells is the example law firm cited in the report as a case study of dementia friendly approaches 'in action'.

Dawn Moore, a solicitor in our Private Client Department, is a recognised 'Dementia Champion', following specialist external training. Within the Joseph Rowntree Report she, together with Private Client partner Hudda Morgan, explains our work to ensure we are as supportive and as welcoming as possible to those with dementia. These include:

  • Ensuring we think about where best to meet people and, where relevant, making sure they see someone they already know
  • Thinking about the 'choreography' of contact from the moment a client first calls or steps through the front door
  • Talking through things at an easy pace and avoiding long letters full of legalese

The firm is actively participating in local and regional initiatives to promote general awareness of dementia and encouraging a wider range of organisations to take practical steps to become 'dementia friendly'.
